A Delhi BJP member has filed a police complaint against standup comedian and actor Vir Das for allegedly making disparaging remarks about women and India during a performance. Das just shared a video from his performance at the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, titled “I come from two Indias.”

‘In India, we worship women in the day and rape them at night’  he (Das) adds in the video. These disparaging remarks against women and India are incendiary. They were created in the United States and tarnish the image of our country around the world. Aditya Jha, who filed the complaint in the New Delhi district on Tuesday night, said, “I want police to investigate.”

“The film is a comedy of the duality of two very different Indias that do different things,” Das said in a statement in response to the video’s backlash. Light and dark, good and evil, exist in every nation. Nothing here is a secret…”
