Vikas Kandola made a star turn for Haryana Steelers as they beat neighboring Dabangg Delhi 36-33 in the 68th match of Pro Kabaddi League Season 8 at The Sheraton Grand, Whitefield here on Friday. The Steelers captain scored a Super 10 (13 points) in an impressive performance by his team.
Coach Rakesh Kumar’s Haryana was a little scared in the game when five players entered the lobby without touching Raider, but they remained silent to make sure they all came away with five points as Delhi missed out on the services of their star rider Naveen Kumar.
Haryana dominated the first 20 minutes in which Vikas Kandola took over the primary raid duties. He was well supported by Vinay and Ashish as they were all out in the 15th minute of the game. The Delhi defenders had a bad outing without a successful tackle before the interval. With Naveen Kumar still out, responsibility for the raid fell on Vijay and Sandeep Narwal. The latter tried his best and was probably the only positive for Delhi in the first half which ended 19-11 in favor of Haryana.
Krishna got two tackle points from the right corner for Delhi as they were planning a comeback. But Steelers’ Kandola made sure to stay on the Delhi backfoot with its classic quick raid.
Fat had other plans for the Steelers, though five of their defenders were following the Delhi Raiders in the lobby without a touch. The move resulted in Delhi getting five points and putting their team back on the mat.
Vikas Kandola made a brave attack and delayed the all-out, which earned him a Super 10, but Delhi finally reduced Haryana’s lead to three points with seven minutes left.
Troubled by this reverse, the Steelers looked uncertain in defense after being all out as Delhi’s Neeraj Narwal took two 2-point raids to level the score. But young Jaideep took matters into his own hands at the last minute and pulled two stunning tackles for Haryana, which gave him the lead and Delhi failed to bridge the gap with their raids.
