The Patna Pirates will seal the place in the playoffs by beating the Puneri platoon

Three-time champions Patna Pirates defeated Puneri Paltan 46-23 in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 8 match here on Thursday and became the first team to qualify for the playoffs in the current season 8.

Guman Singh was the star for the winning Patna team as Raider scored 13 points for the team.

The table-toppers Pirates were sweating for their points by the Elastic Pune team in the first half, but they switched gears in the second half to eliminate the Orange Men. Aslam Inamdar scored 9 points for coach Anup Kumar’s Pune, but all his points came in the first half.

The Patna Pirates had a 1-point advantage at half time but two all-outs in the second half helped them reach 16 points by the final whistle.

Pune started the match on the front foot with a riding pair of Aslam Inamdar and Mohit appearing in red-hot form. They got better against the Patna Pirates raiders while at the other end Pune tightened the defense as Vishal Bhardwaj returned to the left corner position.

He had an accident when the Puneri platoon was getting all out with good earnings – his 4 defenders followed Patna Pirates Raider Sachin in the lobby without any touch. A stroke of luck helped the Patna Pirates get the upper hand and they were all out in the 17th minute.

Guman Singh’s 3-point super raid extended his lead, but Aslam Inamdar immediately changed the color of the game with a 4-point super raid for Pune. The first half ended 18-17 and Patna was on a thin lead.

The opening part of the second half was played with caution as both teams measured each other. Defenders slowly began to enter the game while Raiders slowed down. The Patna Pirates maintained a 3-point lead with 10 minutes on the clock, but Pune knew a big raid could change their fortunes. But Guman Singh’s 2-point raid confirmed that there was no immediate battle in Pune.

The Pirates followed the Athletic Raid by forming a team tackle to eliminate Nitin Tomar before his hand crossed the midfield. He gave the Pirates an allout and a 7-point lead with five minutes left.

Guman Singh got his Super 10 as Patna opened with a 10-point lead with two minutes left. His defender Mohammad Dareza Shadloi marshalled his unit as he got one more all-out through Sachin’s 2-point raid. He gave the Patna Pirates a 16-point lead and helped them win.

The win also secured a place in the playoffs for Vivo PKL Season 8 for Pirates of Coach Ram Meher Singh.
