Tsitsipas, who finished fourth in the new ATP rankings next week, will need to beat top-ranked Novak Djokovic or fifth-ranked Caspar Rudd of Norway to claim his third Masters 1000 title.

In the third Claycourt Masters 1000 semifinal between the pair this season, Sitsipas outscored Zverev as he remained consistent from the baseline and remained strong throughout the service.

Zverev was clinical in the opening set and was working like clockwork, but the German dropped the set for the first time in this year’s tournament as Sitsipas raised his level in the second set.

Sitsipas struck first in the decisive, taking a break for a 3-2 lead when Zverev sent a forehand into the net.

Tsitsipas broke Zverev’s serve and finally claimed a comfortable victory as the German game boiled over. He has won 31 tour-leading matches this year and is 8-4 ahead of Zverev.

The defeat means that Zverev has not yet won the title this season.
