Stars bring audiences to theaters, but eventually run the story show: SS Rajamouli | Telugu Movie News

For the director of “Baahubali” SS RajamouliThe key to truly making an all-India film is not about bringing together big stars from different industries, as the filmmaker says it is important to have a story that connects universally, sometimes even without dialogue.

Returning with another mega-budget multi-starrer in “RRR” five years after the release of the second part of “Baahubali”, the director says that he is a person who believes that this is a story and not the stars who run the show. In an all-India film.

“Pan-Indian film does not mean that actors from different languages come together. An all-India film means a story that unites everyone regardless of language. In making the story, I think, So what happens? Audiences still connect with my film? ‘ Often, the answer is yes, “Rajamouli told PTI in a zoom interview from Hyderabad.

The 48-year-old director said it’s easy to be “regional” when there are big stars in the film because one can easily “play in the gallery” but one should not fall into this trap.

“If your basic story is about universal emotions, you have to create scenes that way, not for the status of the stars. The actor in the star should be able to support your movie. I always believe that there are stars to bring in the audience. Then, it’s the story that drives the show, not the stars, “he added.

Alluri Sitaram Raju (a pre-independent fictional story) woven around two real Indian revolutionaries in the 1920s.Ram Charan), And Komaram Bhim (NT Rama Rao Jr.), “RRR” also features Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt and Olivia Morris.

Rajamouli said he did not approach Bhatt or Devgn as it was an “economically viable” option but because his presence was required for his film.

The director said that he always wanted to tell a fictional story on a real hero and the timeline of Raju and Bhim’s rebellion was so similar that he thought it would be a perfect story to set up his film.

“Although the film is inspired by freedom fighters and freedom fighters, it is not about patriotism but about the friendship between these two heroes and how they inspire each other to move forward. Because it is a fictional story, so I went into it. No. Authenticity in terms of their clothes and the way they speak, “he said.

What unites the universe of “Baahubali” and “RRR” is the theme of fighting oppression, said Rajamouli.

“I don’t analyze my films much, but if I look back, yes, oppression and the rise against it is a very strong human emotion. I like to weave stories around oppression and rebellion.”

The director said that he knows that those who have seen “Baahubali” will expect something similar with “RRR”, although the two stories are different.

“I know people who have gone and seen ‘Baahubali’ will expect the same in this case with my next film, RRR. But I am not overwhelmed by it. When people say, ‘We need another film. Baahubali.’ No means they want the same experience they had with ‘Baahubali’.

Asked about the instructions he gives to his actors, especially about his physical appearance in the film, the director said that he describes his story in such a way that the actors understand what he needs.

“I’m not telling the actors you have to build your body but when I say scenes, they understand that they have to be physically and mentally fit for those scenes. If I tell NTR Jr. that your first action sequence is with a tiger.” He understands what he needs to do. If I tell Charan that your intro scene is with multiple fighters, he understands what he needs to do, “he said.

The director said that he has worked with both the actors in the past, they were on the same page when it came to their acting.

However, they are keen to dub the film in four languages: Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Telugu.

For “RRR”, Rajamouli once again asked his father, author K. V Vijayendra Prasad, “Bajrangi Bhaijaan”, “Baahubali” and “Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi”.

The director praised his father for his passion for making dramatic scenes with great richness.

“From a young age, I had this vivid idea … when my dad started working, he would tell us scenes developed by him and I would push it my way … he realized I had something in me and he asked me. I will join him as an assistant. ”

Rajamouli said that after helping his father for five years, he developed a short text about how his personal mind works.

“He’s the best story writer I know. He’s written almost all of my films, except for one or two. We understand each other well. But as a writer-director, it’s me who decides the scenes. We have our own arguments. .And quarrels. ”

The Kovid epidemic delayed the film for a year, but the director took it in his stride, saying it gave him more time to polish the film.

Now that the release date is approaching, Rajamouli said he is going through feelings of anxiety and excitement.

“I always say that before the film is released my mind is divided into two parts, on the one hand the belief that it will do well and on the other hand, it is full of anxieties and questions. Does it really live up to my expectations?”

‘RRR’ will hit theaters on January 7.
