Rajasthan United secured their place in the Championship play-offs after a goalless draw against Srinidi Deccan in the I-League here on Monday. Rajasthan dominated the game and looked like they would come out on top but eventually had to settle for a third draw in a row.
In just 40 seconds of the game, Rajasthan United showed their intent as Pritam Singh was completely taken into the box by Pedro Manzi. Singh’s attempt was thwarted and he flew to the starting corner. Minutes later, Manzi had a quick 1-2 lead with Sardar Jakhonov.
Unfortunately for the striker, the final pass was a bit heavy. Srinidi Deccan striker David Munoz was playing alone as Rajasthan United dominated the opening 10 minutes.
However, Colombia jumped on Shilton D’Silva’s weak pass and recorded his team’s first proper attack. His shot, however, flew off target. Moments later, the ball bounced back in the second half and Hamza Kher intercepted Jakhonov’s goal.
Near the 20-minute mark, the front three of Rajasthan United reunited well. Pritam Singh whipped the low ball into the box, which was beautifully padded by Manzi and in the plate for Jakhonov. However, the Uzbek turned down a great opportunity because he could not keep his shot at close range. Rajasthan United midfielder Omar Ramos was controlling the midfield but he was also asleep in the middle of the first half. The ball landed on Falguni Singh’s leg, which crashed into the box but his final touch knocked him down just as he was about to take the shot inside. David Munoz played a quick give and go with Girik Khosla but Munoz’s attempt failed. Twelve
Within minutes of the second half, Falguni Singh went ahead once again but could not find the final pass. The first attack of Rajasthan United in the second half came when Ricky Shabong’s distant attempt fell into the hands of Aryan Lamba. A bit of a disappointment arose when defender Mauro Dos Santos was booked for what seemed to be the first challenge of his game. Both teams had plenty of chances to draw the first blood but the poor finishing disappointed them.
