Lausanne: Won bronze medal at the Olympics Indian men’s hockey goalkeeper PR Sreejesh Dignity is in the race to win World Games Athlete of the Year Award after being nominated for the honor.
The winner will be selected after an online voting process that begins on January 10 and ends on January 31.
Elected as FIH Goalkeeper of the Year for 2021, Sreejesh – a triple Olympian with more than 240 international appearances – has enjoyed an extraordinary 12 months, building his best form to help his team win the historic bronze at the Tokyo Games.
If Sreejesh succeeds, he will be the second hockey player in the country to win the title after captaining the women’s team. Rani Rampal.
Rani became the first hockey player to win this award in 2020.
A total of 24 athletes have been nominated for the award.
From the list of 24, the 10 best, measured on January 23, will go to the finals, for which voting will continue until January 31.
