South Africa will host the inaugural FIH Hockey Men’s Cup


The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has named South Africa as the host country for the inaugural FIH Hockey Men’s Cup.

The event will be held at the North-West University of Pochefstrum – which successfully hosted the FIH Hockey Women’s Junior. The world Cup in April this year – from November 28 to December 4, 2022.

The purpose of this new annual event is to offer top-level competition to the best ranked teams not participating in the FIH Hockey Pro League and to give the winning team the option to be promoted to the FIH Hockey Pro League next season. . Therefore, the FIH Hockey Nations Cup marks the beginning of the promotion-relegation principle for the FIH Hockey Pro League, with the first FIH Hockey Nations Cup winning team having the opportunity to be promoted to the 2023-24 FIH Hockey Pro League. The following eight teams – including some world hockey powerhouses – will participate in the first edition, qualifying based on their position in the May 2021 FIH World Rankings: South Africa, France, Canada, Japan, Korea, Ireland, Pakistan and Malaysia.
