SC continues to search for first win after sharing spoils with East Bengal Kerala Blasters

SC East Bengal are on a quest for their first win in the ongoing Hero Indian Super League 2021-22 season as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Kerala Blasters FC at the Tilak Maidan Stadium on Sunday. This was the third consecutive draw between the two teams in the ISL, extending SCEB’s winless streak to six games.

Alvaro Vazquez (44 ‘) equalized with a good shot before halftime before Tomislav Mircela (37’) opened the scoring with a header.

Alvaro Vazquez seemed to have sent the Blasters into the lead but the referee reversed his decision and denied the goal as the striker blew his whistle before the ball landed close to the goalkeeper. Just minutes after the incident, Prabhusukhan Gile made a decisive defense by exposing Antonio Perosevic.

There was a lack of scoring opportunities in the first half until Tomislav Mircela hit the back of the net with his head. Raju Gaikwad got the center-back at the end of a long throw and took the ball to the keeper’s side from a close range. KBFC then lost their defender Anes Sipovic to injury as he left the pitch disappointed and was replaced by Abdul Hakku.

With just minutes to go at halftime, Vazquez’s right-footed shot from outside the box took a bad deflection from Mircela and went to the back of the net to level the game. Thongkosim Haokip and Amarjit Singh Qiam got yellow cards for weak challenges in the first half.

The start of the second half was very exciting as both the teams canceled each other and struggled for momentum in the final third. Vazquez attempted a long-range shot late in the second half that was blocked by the goalkeeper. It was the last contribution from the Spaniard since Ivan Vukomanovic sent Jorge Diaz off the bench.

The second goal for the Yellow Army was denied in the 89th minute stroke as Diaz pushed the defender before heading cross in the net. The competition ended without a goal in the second half and points were shared between the two sides.

SC East Bengal will take on Khalid Jamil’s Northeast United in their next match on Friday while Kerala Blasters FC will take on defending champions Mumbai City FC on Sunday.
