Sales of passenger vehicles in India fell 13% in December: SIAM


New Delhi: Wholesale sales of passenger vehicles in India fell by 13 per cent to 2,19,421 units last month, the auto industry body SIAM said on Friday.

According to the latest data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), sales of two-wheelers also declined by 11 per cent to 10,06,062 units in December 2020 compared to 11,27,917 units.
Motorcycle sales fell 2% to 7,26,587 units from 7,44,237 units in December 2020. Scooter sales also fell 24 per cent to 2,46,080 units from 3,23,757 units a year ago.
During the October-December period of the current financial year, sales of passenger vehicles declined by 15 per cent to 7,61,124 units from 8,97,908 units in the corresponding period of the previous year.
Two-wheeler sales fell 25 percent to 35,98,299 units in the December quarter from 47,82,110 units in the year-ago period.
However, October-December 2020 saw a slight increase in sales of commercial vehicles to 1,94,712 units in the quarter under review against 1,93,034 units.
During the third quarter, vehicle sales in all categories declined by 22 per cent year-on-year to 59,46,283 units from 46,36,549 units.
