India’s men’s hockey goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, who won an Olympic bronze medal, is in the race to win the prestigious World Games Athlete of the Year award after being nominated for the honor.
The winner will be selected following an online voting process that will begin on January 10 and end on January 31.
Elected as FIH Goalkeeper of the Year for 2021, Sreejesh – a triple Olympian with more than 240 international appearances – has enjoyed an extraordinary 12 months, presenting his best form to help his team win the historic bronze at the Tokyo Games.
If Sreejesh succeeds, he will be the second hockey player in the country to win the title after women’s team captain Rani Rampal.
Rani became the first hockey player to win this award in 2020.
A total of 24 athletes have been nominated for the award.
From the list of 24, the 10 best, measured on January 23, will go to the finals, for which voting will continue until January 31.
