Petra Kvitova, Camilla Georgie Breeze in the semifinals

Heavy hitters Petra Kvitova and Camilla Georgie won straight sets to advance to the Roths Eastbourne International semifinals on Thursday.

Quitova, ranked 14, a two-time Wimbledon champion, defeated the last remaining Brit Harriet Dart 6-3, 6-4 in 1 hour and 25 minutes.

Georgie, previously ranked 12th in Italy, beat Bulgaria’s Victoria Tomova 6-2, 6-1 in just one hour in the first quarterfinal of the day.

In their first meeting, Quitova had the power to be considered behind her delivery. The Czech, who won two Wimbledon titles in 2011 and 2014, hit eight aces and never broke. Quitova faced only one break point, which came in the last game of the match.

“I always strive to do good; Sometimes it works more, sometimes it doesn’t, ”Quitova said.

“I didn’t have a poor game today, so for sure it was great, especially at the end of a match when it’s always hard to stop.”

Appearing in Eastbourne for the seventh time, Quitova has reached the Rothsay International semifinals for only the second time in her career. She lost to Marion Bartoli in the 2011 Eastbourne final, just weeks before Quito claimed her biggest success at Wimbledon.

World No. 128 Tomova entered the main draw after Ons Jabur withdrew from the singles and she made the most of it. The Bulgarian won back-to-back tour-level matches for the first time this year, beating Kirsten Flipkens to reach her first WTA 500 quarterfinals. Flipkans beat Tomova in qualifying just a few days ago.

But the Bulgarian’s run was quickly stopped The world No.26 Giorgi, who was commanding during their first meeting. Georgie made five aces, winning 82 percent of the points behind her first serve and claiming two-thirds of the points when returning to Tomova’s second serve.

With the win, Georgie matched his Eastbourne semifinal result last year and is one win away from his first trip to the Rothschild International. The Italian has three singles titles in his resume, and the first title of his career came on the grass in 2015 at ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
