Tendulkar helped Patna Pirates beat defending champions Bengal Warriors 38-29 in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 8 match here on Sunday.

Tendulkar scored a Super 10 (11 points) and was well supported by Guman Singh (7 points) in the riding unit. The Pirates’ defense was also in top form with Mohammedreza Shadloi scoring a high 5.

The win helped the Patna Pirates to the top of the points table. The three-time champion is now the favorite to reach the top-2 which will give him a direct entry into the season 8 semi-finals.

The Bengal Warriors, on the other hand, had one more bad day with both their defense and attack on the Mets struggling. They will now need to make sure they win all the remaining matches of the season to make it to the Eliminators.

Patna took control of the first half with a mass performance. Their raiders Sachin and Guman Singh took the early lead by easily taking advantage of the mistakes made by the Bengal defenders. The Bengal raiders, including Maninder Singh, did not have the same fate at the other end, while Mohammad Reza Shadloi was in the left corner.

When Abozar Mighani and Manoj Gowda pulled two tackles, Bengal made a small comeback. But Patna made a constant effort in his pursuit for that allout and got it with two minutes left in half time. The score was 21-10 in the interval with Bengal and was in dire need of inspiration.

After the break, Patna maintained its dominance. Their riders slowed down the pace of the match while the defenders made sure there were no slip-ups. Maninder Singh of Bengal struggled to make an impact as Mohammedreza Shadloi picked up his high 5 (6th of the season) in the eighth minute of the left corner of Patna.

In the left corner of Bengal, even the generally trusted Ran Singh was spending the night full of mistakes. But despite the dominance, the Pirates failed to make one more allout.

With five minutes left in the match, Patna took an eight-point lead. Tendulkar won his Super 10 as the Pirates finally secured his second all-out. He opened the lead by 11 points. Patna’s team remained silent at the last minute to ensure they won the match.
