NASA Is going to build Atom On power plant The moon And has contracted with three companies for it. Companies that have won bids for nuclear power projects Lockheed Martin, Westinghouse And IX.
Shook hands with NASA US Department of Energy (DOE) on developing advanced space nuclear technologies. Both have selected three design concept proposals for the Fish Surface Power System design “that could be ready for launch by the end of the decade for display on the moon.”
The US Space Agency announced in a website post: “The Battle Energy Alliance, the managing and operating contractor for the Idaho National Laboratory, is leading the request for NASA-sponsored proposal development, evaluation and acquisition. Idaho National Laboratory will award a 12-month contract to the following companies to develop each initial design:
The company will partner with BWXT and Creare – Lockheed Martin, Bethesda, Maryland.
Westinghouse of Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania – The company will partner with Aerojet RocketDine.
A joint venture between Houston, Texas’ IX, Intuitive Machines and X-Energy – the company will partner with Maxar and Boeing. ”
All three companies have been tasked with providing concept designs Nuclear fission Energy systems that will be placed on the moon. Companies will have to work with their partners to develop “initial design concepts” for a 40-kilowatt class fission power system that will last at least 10 years on the moon.
Each of the three companies will take about $ 5 million for their contributions. With this agreement, NASA is considering finding some future applications for spacecraft propulsion systems designed to travel far and deep in space under it. Artemis Program
