Liverpool set the sights on a world-class midfielder next summer

Liverpool had to spend £ 85 million on Uruguay striker Darwin Nunez to secure one more goal-scoring option in their squad but the search for a world-class midfielder is still on. It is believed that Liverpool will try to find a suitable fit in the next 12 months.

An article published by the Mirror claims that coach Klopp told Sporting director Julian Ward about his needs. Klopp allegedly wanted a young, versatile, athletic and technically sound player. English midfielder Judd Bellingham, who is set to celebrate his 19th birthday later this month, is a potential option in which Liverpool will have a definite interest. The teenager is currently playing in the Bundesliga and has so far represented his club Borussia Dortmund in 90 matches.

In addition to club football, he has played 19 matches on the international circuit. Signing Bellingham for Klopp will not be an easy task as the midfielder has many fans. Including Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola. Most importantly, it would be a really expensive signing because Bellingham’s contract is still three years away and this could make the transfer process very difficult.

Borussia Dortmund will definitely want to get a healthy amount from the transfer. After losing to Norwegian striker Erling Holland for a third of his market value against Manchester City, the German club will not be willing to let go of a world-class midfielder like Bellingham on a free transfer.

Earlier, Liverpool had shown no hesitation in spending a handsome sum in the transfer market. They had to spend £ 75 million to get the services of Dutch center-back Virgil Van Dijk. It took 67 million to catch Brazilian goalkeeper Alison Baker. Nunez is expected to become Liverpool’s most expensive striker after The Reds paid £ 65 million and £ 20 million in potential add-ons.

Earlier this year, Mercedes signed Colombian winger Luis Diaz from Porto for 50 million.

Liverpool are set to begin their English Premier League campaign against Fulham on 6 August, just one point behind last season’s champions Manchester City.
