Liverpool beat Arsenal to reach League Cup final

LONDON: Diego Jotta’s double gave Liverpool a comfortable 2-0 win over Chelsea against Arsenal in the second leg of their League Cup semi-final on Thursday.

Arsenal drew 0-0 at Anfield last week despite playing the most matches with 10 men since Granit Zaka’s red card, but all that sweat and hard work ultimately counts for nothing.

Liverpool, along with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Nebi Keita, were still far from African Nations Cup duty, under initial pressure and before Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette hit the woodwork with a free kick.

Arsenal then lacked confidence and Jota secured Liverpool’s way with a neat finish in the 77th minute – the goal was initially offside but allowed after a VAR check.

To end a disappointing night for Arsenal they sent Thomas Party for another yellow after a late foul on Fabinho.

Liverpool will look for a record ninth League Cup win when they face Chelsea who secured their place with a 3-0 aggregate victory over Tottenham Hotspur last week.
