Liverpool’s new signing Luis Diaz has all the hallmarks to succeed in a Premier League club, manager Jurgen Klopp said, adding that he supported the Colombian winger to quickly adapt to life in England and improve the team.
Diaz became Liverpool’s first signing in the January transfer window on Sunday, with the Portuguese side signing a deal with him from Porto worth 45 million euros ($ 50 million).
“He’s a great player and someone we’ve been tracking for a long time,” Klopp told the club’s website. We believe he has everything he needs to fit in our way, both physically and mentally, and adapt to the Premier League.
“He is a player who is hungry for success and knows that you have to fight to get what you want. He’s a fighter, no doubt about it. He is a skilled team player who is always on the lookout for goals. “
Klopp thanked the Liverpool owners for the deal.
“The team deserved to add quality and when we played against Lewis earlier this season, we saw how dangerous he was, how fast he was and what his mentality was to help his team,” Klopp said.
“Lewis is a player we believe will make us better now and in the future. He’s the player we really wanted and he’s done it, so I’m glad he did. “
Diaz will arrive at the club after completing his international duty with Colombia, who face Argentina in the World Cup qualifiers in Cડોrdoba on Tuesday.
Liverpool are second in the league with 48 points after 22 matches, nine points behind Manchester City who have played one game more.
They will host Cardiff City on February 6 in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
