Is Alexis Sanchez set for a Barcelona reunion?

In the January transfer window Inter Milan forward Alexis Sanchez could be seen returning to his old club FC Barcelona and Sevilla’s Luke de Jong goes the other way, according to several reports. Between 2011 and 2014, Sanchez made a total of 88 appearances for the Spanish giants before moving to Arsenal and then Manchester United. He eventually joined the Italian club Inter Milan.

According to Sports, Inter will be happy to return him to Barcelona on loan, as the 32-year-old has only started two games this season and has scored two goals and three assists in 14 appearances.

It is believed that De Jong, who is on loan from Sevilla to Barcelona, could go the other way as Barcelona have no plans to keep him at the club. Inter are eager to bring the 31-year-old Dutchman to San Siro so they can help him overcome his attack.

Sanchez will almost certainly be welcomed at Camp Nou, where he has good memories, scoring 47 goals and 35 assists in 141 appearances. He won La Liga titles, a Spanish Cup, two Spanish Super Cups and a Club World Cup during his three-year stay. All that is needed to seal the Sanchez transaction is the approval of manager Xavier Hernandez and president John Laporta.

It remains to be seen whether Barcelona will move in with him as Marca’s new report claims that Sanchez is not a priority for Xavi. Chile player Sergio Aguero could be a possible replacement, who announced his retirement on Wednesday due to a heart condition.

According to recent transfer rumors, Xavi is eyeing several other targets, including Edinson Cavani of Manchester United, Ferran Torres of Manchester City and Timo Werner of Chelsea.

One reason for this is the club’s financial difficulties in covering Sanchez’s salary. Barcelona will have to offload their current team members to make room in their salary caps. The Catalan club will not be able to sign any potential targets unless one of their current players is released first.
