The Indian women’s hockey team put on an impressive performance by beating the USA 4-0 in the second leg match of their debut season in the FIH Pro League here on Wednesday.
The Indians had earlier beaten the USA 4-2 in the first match of the double header on Tuesday.
Vandana Kataria (39th, 54th) scored two goals, while Sonica (54th) and Sangeeta Kumari (58th) once boarded for India.
Argentina has already won the title and the Netherlands is second.
USA got off to a great start and got their first chance in the second minute, but Elizabeth Yeger’s high shot was easily saved. India Captain and goalkeeper Savita.
The Indians also got a chance soon but Sharmila Devi missed a golden opportunity as she failed to beat the USA goalkeeper closely.
As always, Salima Tate was the live wire from the right, which created chances for her side with her defense-split run.
The Americans got their second penalty corner in the 11th minute but lost the chance.
After the quarter break, USA made a positive start once again but as the match progressed, the Indians sank into confidence.
India got their first penalty corner in the 23rd minute but failed to run a set piece.
The Indians then continued to attack and got two more penalty corners but the end result was the same as both the teams failed to break the deadlock at half time.
In the third minute of the third quarter, India got a penalty corner but Navneet Kaur’s trap shot was easily saved by USA goalkeeper Kelsey Bing after an initial fumble from the stopper.
But it was the girls of Jennick Shopman who broke the deadlock in the 39th minute when Vandana got a faint touch to deflect Gurjeet Kaur’s flick from India’s fifth penalty corner.
The Indians had a lot of opportunities in the last two quarters. Navneet missed a sitter as his slap shot against the open goal went over the post.
The Americans got a penalty corner in the 43rd minute but India defended well.
India then captured the match with three goals in four minutes.
First, Vandana scored an open goal from the right side build-up and then seconds later, Sonica found the USA net from Golmouth Meli with a second attack on the right side.
Indian skipper Savita soon made a double defense to deny the Americans a penalty corner.
Yuva Sangeeta also made a name for herself in the scoresheet with a superb field goal in the 57th minute.
The last chance of the match came in the form of another penalty corner against USA but he wasted it.
