WWE reached out to former tag team champion The IIinspiration to offer a spot in the 2022 Women’s Royal Rumble match. According to Sean Ross Sap from Fightful Select, Casey Lee and Jesse McKay (formerly known as Patton Royce and Billy K, known as The Iconics) were given the opportunity to appear at the Royal Rumble. However, according to reports, both turned down the offer.
The pair, who were released from the WWE last year, missed the opportunity because they thought it was not the right time to return to the company, not even once. The report added that both pro wrestlers are happy with their current route. The report cites Impact Wrestling sources, who claimed that the company would have approved the deal if IIinspiration had chosen to proceed with it.
The women’s tag team was a big part of the division in WWE during 2015-2021. They were the only other team to hold the famous women’s tag team championship. The team split into the 2020 WWE Draft, and was finally released from the company in April last year as part of a series of budget cuts by WWE.
They won the women’s tag team title at WrestleMania 35 and were title holders for 120 days before their release.
After their release, the two trademarked their new ring names, Casey Lee and Jesse McKay. The duo launched their Podcast of Her Chops and also announced The IIspiration Tour. Cassie and Jessie joined Impact in October 2021 and debuted for Bound for Glory pay-per-view. They immediately won the Knockouts Tag Team Championship from The Deck, Rosemary and Hawk, which they have held for more than three months.
According to Fightful, Casey and Jesse are not the only stars who have been approached by WWE. Knockout champion Mickey James is also expected to be part of the upcoming Women’s Royal Rumble match. The Royal Rumble takes place on January 29 at the Dome at the American Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
