IBA Paris 2024 boxing tournament, will not take charge of qualifiers: IOC | Boxing News

This International Boxing Association Will not be handed over Boxing Competition at Paris 2024 Olympics Or a qualifier for those games, the IOC Said on Friday.
The IOC was stripped IBA His involvement last year in 2019 Tokyo Olympics Due to governance, finance, referrals and ethical issues. The game was not even included in the preliminary schedule for the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
“(The decision) follows the IBA’s consistent and highly relevant issues, such as its governance and its refereeing and judging system,” the Olympic body said in a statement following a meeting of the executive board.
“Concerns from various IOCs around the IBA regime, including the referencing and judging process and its financial reliance on the state-owned company Gazprom, are still ongoing.”
The Russian energy company is the largest sponsor of IBA, formerly known as AIBA.
IBA President Omar Kremlev, a Russian businessman, was re-elected unopposed after disqualifying his only rival, Boris van der Werst, two days before the May 14 vote in Istanbul.
Van der Worst, however, has since been upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which ruled that he was wrongly barred from running in last month’s presidential election, leading to a turmoil within the body.
The IBA also had to make changes to the refereeing following the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympics and the existing bout manipulation system there, resulting in the removal of Executive Director Karim Bouzidi along with several referees and officials.
“The IOC executive board felt that was enough,” IOC Sports Director Kit McConnell told a virtual news conference.
“Boxing qualifiers and competition in the 2024 Olympic Games will not be run under the authority of the IBA.”
He said the IOC is considering different models for qualifiers and competition preparation.
“A lot of lessons and best practices have been developed for the sport at the Tokyo Olympics (last year). Whatever model we have will take the voices of the people aboard the ship as well as the strong athletes.”
