The most delicate skin on our body is around our eyes. It has less oil glands and collagen than the rest of our face. Not surprisingly, it needs extra care and attention to keep it looking young and radiant. Because of how thin the skin under our eyes is, it is prone to showing the first signs of premature aging. However, with proper care and the right products, you can keep your worries about it at bay. Here are 5 tips to properly care for the skin under your eyes:
Moisturize with the right products
Trans-epidermal water loss is high in this part of our face, making it prone to dryness. Regular moisturizer can be too harsh. Consider choosing eye creams and serums based on your skin type and needs.
A gentle touch is a must
Never pull your fingers forcefully under your eye while applying or removing the product. Excess pressure can lead to fine lines. Use your pinky finger to press in whatever you apply and use a cotton pad with makeup remover to gently move in an outward motion to remove any product.
Get those hours of sleep
Getting enough hours of sleep may not directly contribute to reducing dark circles, especially if you have a habit of rubbing your eyes (stop it now!) or have inherited it in your genes. However, a healthy sleep cycle can lead to overall healthy skin. Lack of sleep makes the skin dull, making your dark circles more visible.
Massaging under and around your eyes can help retain fluid that may be the main cause of the puffiness you’re seeing. Gentle pressure can help remove excess fluid and improve circulation.
A nutritious diet
Add foods rich in antioxidants, beta-carotene, coenzyme Q10, nutritional powerhouses, and plenty of fluids to your diet. If you smoke, quit immediately. Smoking can speed up the normal aging process by impairing blood flow to your skin.
