It was a memorable night for Dabangg Delhi’s veteran stars Sandeep Narwal and Manjeet Chhillar as they helped their team beat the Patna Pirates 32-29 in the Pro Kabaddi League on Tuesday.
Defender Chhillar, who has the most tackle points in PKL history, made the last raid tackle to win the thrill for Delhi, which was once again without the services of their star rider Naveen Kumar.
Vijay helped with nine points while Narwal, playing the role of all-rounder, scored eight points in the win which helped Delhi to top the points table.
In Patna, his defense lacked general sharpness which eventually led to his losing the match.
Patna dominated the opening minutes of the match, but Delhi made a comeback with their Raider victory. He scored surprisingly valuable points in the volatile Patna defense to give Delhi a 4-point lead with an all-out in the 10th minute.
Narwal and Chhillar used all their experience to make a good impression on the Mets as Delhi’s defense thwarted their opponents.
Patna cover defender Sajin C suffered a knee injury and had to be replaced, which clearly affected his team’s chemistry. Narwal played a complete all-rounder for Delhi in the first half, scoring raid points.
In the interval, Delhi took a 9-point lead with a score of 19-10.
Patna showed why experts considered him an early season favorite for a playoff spot returning to the match. The first 10 minutes after the restart were entirely Patna as Sachin and Guman Singh used mistakes in Delhi’s defense.
The lack of lethal raiders affected the Delhi attack and they were finally defeated in the 10th minute. Patna managed to reduce the lead to just one point and was clearly a team with momentum.
But Delhi was not in the mood to let this go. Narwal opened the three-point lead with a 2-point rate as both teams battled. Mohammad Reza Shadloi then grabbed a stunning ankle on Ashu Malik and grabbed a hind paw for Patna.
Vijay then made a super raid of 3 points with three minutes left to give Delhi a 4 point lead. Patna needed two points in their last raid, but Chhillar helped Delhi win the match with a superb diving tackle.
