Former Grand Slam finalist Madison Keys on Saturday slammed Adelaide International for boosting confidence ahead of the Australian Open by effectively putting compatriot Alison Riski aside.

The 2017 US Open champion won the All-American final 6-1, 6-2 in 66 minutes.

She hit 28 wins compared to Riske’s three in an almost flawless performance.

Keys told his support team during the awards presentation, “We had a great off-season and all of you who have helped me mentally make the whole change mean the world to me.”

It was a tonic for the unseeded Keys, who had a tough opening round match at Melbourne Park against 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Canin.

Keys confidently started the season on Friday, beating American teenager and third-ranked Coco Goff in a three-set semi-final thriller, and showed the form that led her to seventh in the career-high rankings in 2016.

This was Keys’ sixth consecutive victory over his frequent practice partner.

The 26-year-old was in a belligerent mood from his gruesome groundstrokes and a flustered risk due to his terrible groundstrokes, which never allowed him to continue his game and struggled badly in the service.

Keys dominated the baseline rallies, grabbing an early break and suppressing her mistakenly scattered opponent who hit just one winner in the opening five games.

After powering in the first set, Keys kept her feet on the gas as she got an early break in the second set to continue the one-sided contest.

The world number 57 risk showed more fights after that but that was not enough.

She is playing in the first round of the Australian Open against 69th seed Donna Vekic of Croatia.
