FIM MiniGP World Series arrives in India, race to be held in Bengaluru, Hyderabad in July-September

What could be a game-changer for two-wheeler racing in the country, India FIM is included in MiniGP The world Series 2022 with five rounds of competition under the auspices of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI).

The 10-race India series will be held in Bengaluru and Hyderabad from July to September this year, FMSCI said in a statement on Thursday.

FIM, together with Dorna Sports, the world governing body for two-wheeler racing, the promoters of FIM MotoGP, launched the MiniGP series in 2021, with the aim of creating a common platform for young riders around the world to embark on their motorcycle racing careers.

The range is restricted to riders in the 10-14 age group, the release said.

The FIM MiniGP World Series India 2022 kicks off in Bengaluru on July 2-3 with a selection trial at Meco Cartopia. The first of the five rounds will also be held at Meco Cartopia on July 23-24, before returning to Hyderabad for the next two rounds (August 20-21 and August 27-28) and then returning to Bengaluru for the final two rounds. It was announced on Thursday, September 10-11 and September 24-25. There will be two races in each round of the series.

Selected riders will compete on the same Ohvale GP-0 160 machinery (mini bikes) while Pirelli will be the authorized single tire supplier for all FIM MiniGP World Series and will allocate standard tires per event. All five rounds, a total of 10 races, will be run on karting tracks that meet the minimum standards set by FIM or the National Federation.

The uniqueness of the India series is that the reputable Italian manufacturer Ohval will offer the competitor a mini bike and complete racing kits in addition to the service at no cost. KYT will provide helmets while Videm, Ohvale India and RMS Motorsport are the main sponsors.

India is a new addition to the range, along with Australia, Austria, Indonesia, Japan and Qatar, which already includes 10 other countries – France, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, the Netherlands, North America, Portugal, Spain, the UK and Alpe-Adria.

Akbar Ibrahim, President, Fmsci said: “We welcome the FIM MiniGP World Series in India. This is a big step in our efforts to identify, nurture and promote young talent in our country. The series also offers a huge platform for talented youngsters to showcase their skills and further their racing dreams.

“It’s a great initiative by Ohwell to provide machines and riding gear without charge and hopefully, this incentive will encourage and motivate more young people to get involved in sports,” he was quoted as saying in the release.
