Arsenal drew 0-0 at Anfield last week despite playing the first lead with 10 men since Granit Zaka’s early red card, but all that sweat and hard work ultimately counts for nothing.
Liverpool, along with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Nebi Keita were still far from African Nations Cup duty, came under initial pressure and Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette hit Woodwork with a free kick.
But in the 19th minute, a flowing Liverpool move ended with Jota’s shot penetrating inside the post.
Arsenal then lacked confidence and Jota secured Liverpool’s way with a neat finish in the 77th minute – the goal was initially offside but allowed after a VAR check.

To end a disappointing night for Arsenal they sent Thomas Party for another yellow after a late foul on Fabinho.
Liverpool will find a place in the record ninth League Cup They will face Chelsea who secured their place with an overall 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur last week.
“We are really happy, the mood in the dressing room is on the moon,” said Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
“The first half Arsenal was alive and so was the crowd but we calmed it down. We scored two wonderful goals.”

The mood of Arsenal fans was hopeful when a lacazette-clipped free kick forced Liverpool keeper Caoimhin Kalehar to touch the ball against the crossbar.
But Liverpool soon began to outrun them and the opening goal was the result of real quality.
From inside their own half, Liverpool threw the ball to Trent Alexander-Arnold via a silky flick by Roberto Firmino. Alexander-Arnold fed Jota who tricked Aaron Ramsdale with a shot before Tekehiro went inside Tomiasu who slowly turned the corner.
The goal took the stuffing out of Mikel Arteta’s side and Liverpool looked comfortable afterwards, although Lacazette had a second chance but it was thwarted.

Liverpool’s young player Kaide Gord wasted a great opportunity to extend Liverpool’s lead and hit substitute Ibrahima Conate’s header at the foot of the post.
Arsenal still hoped to turn things around but failed when right-back Alexander-Arnold passed a shoe that bounced off the ball before a delicate finish against Ramsdale.
“Diego Jotta is already a great player, the numbers speak for themselves,” said Liverpool defender Virgil Van Djack.
“He’s very important, he’s shown it since last year and he’s a tough striker / winger to play against. I know him from training. He’s back tonight.”
