With the help of brilliant performances from defenders Sunil and Mohammad Reza Shadloi, the Patna Pirates beat the Bengaluru Bulls 38-31 in a Vivo Pro Kabaddi League Season 8 match at The Sheraton Grand in Whitefield here on Sunday.
Pirates defenders Sunil and Mohammad Reza Shadloi were instrumental in building the defensive wall which even players like Pawan Sehrawat could not break.
Wind, the current green sleeve holder (given to the rider with most of the riding points), scored a Super 10 in the first half but could not contribute a single point after the interval. A series of Super Tackles in the final minutes ensured that the Bulls lost the match by a margin of only seven points.
Pawan Sehrawat made a great start to the Bulls match with his usual best performance. But the Pirates certainly have plans to stop the Season 6 champions.
Their defenders pushed into the group to move their pace to their side. Interestingly, coach Ram Mehr Singh chose to start Guman Singh instead of veteran Monu Goyat. The Pirates made a two-headed attack with Sachin and Guman, who got easy points from the confused Bulls defense.
They opened their 2-point lead with their first all-out in the 9th minute. Pawan Sehrawat, meanwhile, got his Super 10 but the Bulls managed just three successful tackles in the first half which ended 20-16 in favor of the Pirates.
The Pirates were not in the mood to slip into the second half. His defense was almost flawless as the three-time champions got one more allout in the 7th minute after the restart.
Players like Pawan Sehrawat and Deepak Narwal struggled to cross the Steely Defense Martial by Sunil in the right corner. With 10 minutes left in the match, the Pirates opened the 11-point lead and Sunil got a high 5.
The Pirates continued their “high risk-high rewards” to maintain the lead. They can make the mistake of accepting too many super tackles in the minutes of death that helped the Bulls lose by a margin of only 7 points (1 point earning result).
