Colombian star Luis Diaz signs from Liverpool Porto

Colombia international winger Luis Diaz signed for Portuguese side FC Porto on Sunday for Premier League side Liverpool, which will cast more doubt on the future of their Egyptian star Mohamed Salah.

Diaz, 25, signed a contract for a report fee of £ 37.5 million ($ 50 million) by 2027, with an additional .5 12.5 million in potential bonuses.

For Salah, who is currently away from the Africa Cup of Nations, there is no resolution for lengthy negotiations on the extension of the agreement.

“Liverpool Football Club has completed the signing of Luis Diaz from FC Porto, subject to the success of the work permit and international approval,” Liverpool said in a statement on its website.

“He joins FC Porto after two and a half seasons at Liverpool, where he made 125 appearances and scored 41 goals.”

Diaz was rumored to be Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s primary target for the summer transfer window, but growing interest in the player, especially from Tottenham Hotspur, forced the Reds to move early.

He is currently on international duty with Colombia for the 2022 World Cup qualifying matches.

Liverpool have sent a delegation to Argentina – where Colombia play on Tuesday – for medical treatment so that the move can be completed before the January transfer window closes.

Salah and Liverpool team-mates Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino will all be out of contract in the summer of 2023, at which time they will all be 31 years old.

Diaz will add fresh blood to the Liverpool forward line and will come with a growing reputation after scoring 16 goals in 28 games for Porto this season.

He was also the top scorer in the Copa America with Lionel Messi with four goals last year.
