Jamshedpur FC have completed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Wellington Priory, adding yet another important addition to their midfield. The 6ft 3in tall midfielder was part of the Red Miners’ inaugural Hero Indian Super League (ISL) season and returned to Furness after four seasons.
After playing in Brazil, Thailand and South Korea, Priory signed with Northeast United of the Hero ISL in 2016 and subsequently worked at Furness.
Priory made quite a name for himself by scoring a stunning goal in Red Miners colours. He scored a thrilling overhead bicycle kick against Northeast United and a stunning volley against Chennaiyin FC. His addition in the January transfer window almost took the club to the playoffs with a much improved performance in the second half of the league.
The Brazilian was happy to be back at Jamshedpur FC where he enjoyed many memorable moments.
“I’m coming back to where I belong. The time I spent with the club was fantastic, and I am thrilled to be back playing at the hearth in front of the loyal and passionate fans of Jamshedpur. Working with Aidy Boothroyd, who has a wealth of experience, will definitely help us succeed as a team. I will work hard with my teammates to win more silverware for Jamshedpur,” he said.
Coach Eddie Boothroyd was delighted with Wellington’s signing and said, “Wellington has all the attributes you look for in a midfielder – he’s technical, good with the ball, scores goals and has experience of playing in the ISL. He is coming home, has played for the club before and will help them hit the ground running.
Wellington Priory will wear the number 5 jersey and join the team in Jamshedpur for pre-season in mid-August.
