The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said on Friday that players must be vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to participate in this year’s league championship. The CBF said it was in constant touch with health organizations and had sent an updated list of requirements to member clubs. “One of these is the responsibility of the CBF Medical Commission to issue a complete vaccination certificate against COVID-19,” it said in a statement.
The top four national divisions begin in the second week of April.
Brazil coach Tito has said that he is not selecting Atletico Madrid defender Renan Lodi for his team for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers because he has not been fully vaccinated.
The issue of athletes’ attitudes towards vaccines has recently dominated sports headlines after tennis player Novak Djokovic, who was not vaccinated before the Australian Open, was deported.
