Boyd, No. 2 NC State Women’s Top Elon 78-46 for 8th win in a row


Raleigh, NC: Jada Boyd scored 17 points and No. 2 North Carolina State beat Elon 78-46 on Sunday for its eighth consecutive win.

Wolfpack (8-1) led 16-9 after a quarter despite five turnovers, then started the second period with an 8-0 lead. Phoenix (5-2) has never reduced the deficit to single digits since.

NC State shot 51% off the field and hit nine 3-pointers, the highest on two balls of the season.

Kyla Lills led Phoenix with 12 points, while Elon was only 27.8% overall in shooting.

Big picture

Elon: Phoenix’s two defeats this season came on November 26 against the current top two teams and Wolfpack in the country’s No. 1 South Carolina. Elon lost by 41 points to Gamecox but has been impressed elsewhere in his non-conference schedule, winning five games at an average of 14.2 points.

NC State: Following the defeat of South Carolina to start the year, the Wolfpack then-no. Maryland on Nov. 25 and No. 6 Indiana on the road last Thursday.

Also on Sunday marked the second balanced outing for the NC state, with 11 players making baskets out of which only three Boyds, Aziha James and Camille Hobby reached double digits.

Elon: Phoenix has a week off before facing Davidson on Sunday.

NC State: Wolfpack will open a conference play at Pitt on Friday.
