The 36-year-old veteran off-spinner, India’s second highest Test wicket-taker (442), is known for his bowling prowess. He often does less off-break ball than a right-handed carom ball.
“Ash (Ashwin) has done a great job for us,” Sangakkara told a post-match press conference after the loss to RR. Gujarat Titans With seven wickets in the IPL final on Sunday.
“Even for Ash, being a legend in terms of what he has achieved on the cricket pitch, there has to be a lot of refinement and thinking, especially for his off-spinners and bowling more of them,” Sangakkara commented on the team. The oldest member to take just 12 wickets in 17 matches this season.
Even in the peak collision, the off-spinner chose to bowl a few carom balls instead of the regulation of spin. He gave up 32 runs in three overs without taking a wicket, defending a modest 130 runs.
Choosing to bat first, RR was limited to 130/9, which was chased by GT in 18.1 overs and Sangakkara felt that the score would never be enough.
“It was a tough one. 130 was never enough. We were debating whether to bat before them. By the time we got on the field, we looked at the pitch, it was very dry and we thought. It slowed down. Will go and maybe give a little twist to our spinners. So, we were expecting to get around 160-165. ”
He said his team let the opposing bowlers into the game after a good start to the innings.
“We were really well set at 70/1 at the half-way mark in our batting innings. Sanju (Samson) walked out. And then they came and threw some beautiful overs and we let go Gujarat Get back into the game. ”
With (130), we need some luck and some quick wickets in the powerplay. We got two but unfortunately we didn’t get Gill in that first over (Shubman) and the run-rate never went above seven.
“It was always tough. It was hard about calculations and math and just about trying and getting two wickets and going through it (David). Miller And Hardik (Pandya) and Gill had a partnership, but we couldn’t do that, “he admitted.

‘Many improvements are needed’
Despite enjoying a good season and ending up as runners-up, Sangakkara felt the team needed to improve in many areas.
“It’s good that we have a lot to improve in all areas. If you look at our batting, we had Jose (Butler), Sanju and a very big contribution. Shimron Hetimer In the early stages.
“Ryan (Pollen) and Devdutt (Padikkal) played really well in the patch, but I think in terms of overall performance, we need a bit more from the support role players as well,” he said.
“This season was really special for us. It was great to give the fans happy moments. I’m really proud … https://t.co/6IHqwK2sV9

Talk about Ryan PollenThe experienced keeper-batsman backed the youngster to strengthen Rajasthan’s middle order.
“I think Ryan Pollen has a lot of potential, and by the time we get to next season we’ve worked to get him to work at a higher batting number. I’m looking forward to him becoming one more type of batsman. Rather a middle order early player.
“Because, I think he is very good at spin and pace,” noted the great Sri Lankan batsman.
Sangakkara signed saying that this was the best and strongest XI with whom RR played.
“… but when you take the quality of the players we have, this was the best side and the strongest side (which) we put in the park,” he said.
