India’s long wait for 5G is likely to end this month. Bharti Airtel has announced that it has awarded Ericsson its first 5G contract in the country with deployment in August 2022. Ericsson is Airtel’s long-standing connectivity partner and managed services provider across India, with a partnership spanning over 25 years. The latest 5G partnership follows the completion of the 5G spectrum auction in India on July 26.
In a statement, Airtel said it will deploy power-efficient 5G radio access network (RAN) products and solutions from Ericsson Radio Systems and Ericsson Microwave Mobile Transport Solutions. Ericsson will provide 5G connectivity in 12 circles for Bharti Airtel.
In addition to enhanced user experience for Airtel customers – ultra-high-speed, low latency and large data handling capabilities – Ericsson 5G network products and solutions will also enable Bharti Airtel to drive new, innovative use cases with its enterprise and industry customers. , the company claimed.
Airtel 5G footprint in India
Bharti Airtel has announced that it has acquired 19,800 MHz of spectrum, securing a pan-India footprint in the 3.5 GHz and 26 GHz bands. The spectrum bank was awarded a total of Rs. 43,084 crore was secured for consideration.
