33 Kovid-19 cases were found at SAI Bengaluru, out of which 16 were hockey players


Among the 33 Covid-19 cases found on Friday at the Sports Authority of India’s National Center of Excellence here are 16 members of the senior men’s hockey team.

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) said the positive cases came after 128 tests were conducted at the high-profile center.

Most of them are asymptomatic and all have been isolated, the SAI said but did not disclose the identities of those infected.

“16 athletes and a coach of the senior men’s hockey team, who were training at the center before the next FIH Pro League in South Africa, have tested positive. It’s all asymptomatic, “SAI said.

Of the junior women’s hockey girls who are training for the World Cup in April, 15 have tested positive. Three of the positive cases are asymptomatic while 12 are symptomatic.

A senior player on the women’s hockey team, who is a therapist and also a masseuse on the athletics team, has tested positive.

SAI said it was taking all necessary steps to treat the players in isolation and help them stay healthy.

Earlier, more than 25 covid cases were reported at SAI’s Patiala training center in which boxers were most affected.

The National Institute of Sports in Patiala is a training ground for boxers, weightlifters and track and field athletes.
